Frequently Asked Questions

1 - Why do I need this, my pet has a microchip?

Every minute of every day, 13 family pets are euthanized.  That's more than 7-Million dogs and cats annually, simply because the pet could not be returned to its owner due to lack of ID (or at least ability to access current information.)

And despite the advent of the microchip over 3 decades ago, the number of pets destroyed each year is growing, in fact, even the American Veterinary Medical Association declares on its own website "...nothing replaces a collar with up-to-date identification tags." (01/19/12)

Here are just a few more reasons why a visible ID Tag trumps a hidden microchip for fast response and return.

2 - My Pet NEVER goes outside and if they do they are with me at my side.

Please don't say that.  We will be more than happy to have you talk to some of our customers that said exactly that, sometimes too late unfortunately.  Accidents happen, life happens and it saddens us when a pet is lost and can not be reunited because the pet's guardian did not put a tag on them.  You know the saying... This will never happen to me.  Pet's can be scared by a loud noise, an accident can happen.  We have heard so many of these stories of how it did happened.

So please, if you do not buy one of our tags please have someone's tag on your pet's collar or harness at all times.  Thank you.

3 - My pet has a tag with a phone number on it already so why should I use BARKCODE?.

The one telephone number tags are ok but what if you can't be reached?  What if you are out of town, your not home.  A one phone number tag is better than no tag, but it does not give options to help your pet back home where they want to be.  The easier you make it for someone to help, the faster you get your pet back safely. The last thing you want is for someone to take your pet to a shelter.  Wherever you are, whenever you want you can update your pet's online profile 24/7.

BARKCODE® is great for those who love to travel since you can easily update your location or add the dog sitter's information!

7 - Who benefits from BARKCODE?

Everyone.

More specifically...

Lost Pets:

Potentially lifesaving since 2 out of 3 lost pets NEVER make it home to their original owner.  Due to overcrowding, many shelters euthanize animals in as little as 36 hours.

Families:

Losing a family pet is devastating to all.

Tax Payers:

Most animal shelters are funded via city and county budgets.  Less stress on our shelters equals greater cost cutting for local governments... ultimately the tax payer.

No-Kill Animal Shelters and various Pet Organizations:

We believe in giving back. BARKCODE® not only has a program where we can team with your organization and make a custom tag for you to sell as a fundraiser but we give a portion of our proceeds to various charitable organizations, including the American Red Cross.
